Criminal Charges Against Officers Can Affect Other Cases

Criminal charges against law enforcement officers can affect the arrests they’ve made and the cases they’ve testified at or would testify at, reported West Dakota Fox News recently, stating that four or more North Dakota officers “have been charged with crimes in the last year.” A criminal defense attorney for a case involving one of the charged deputies says, “I’m not sure had we actually taken the case to trial that having the problems with [the deputy] would’ve changed much. But, knowing that there was potential problems, the prosecution was willing to work on resolution.” In some cases, however, trials can be significantly affected by the compromised credibility of an officer.
